Air
Force Academy
Located the the base of the Rocky Mountains, just outside Colorado
Springs. The U.S. Air Force Academy, in the interest of our future
national security, molds our future leaders into outstanding young
men and women into Air Force officers with knowledge, character,
and discipline; motivated to lead the worlds' greatest aerospace
force in service to the nation. Before its graduates enter various
flying and support specialties, the Academy trains them to be, first
and foremost, Air Force officers.
Pikes
Peak
The most visited mountain in North America and the second most visited
mountain in the world behind Japan's Mount Fuji, Pikes Peak forms
a stunning backdrop for Colorado Springs and the Garden of the Gods.
At an altitude of 14,110 feet above sea level, Pikes Peak is the
31st highest peak out of 54 Colorado peaks. It is the farthest east
of the big peaks in the Rocky Mountain chain.
Garden
of the Gods
In 1859, gold was discovered in the South Park area of Colorado.
The Pikes Peak area became a funnel of humanity since it sat at
the foot of Ute Pass, the only accessible route to South Park. It
was August of 1859, when two surveyors started out from Denver City
to start formal action in locating a townsite, soon to be called
Colorado City. While exploring nearby locations, they came upon
a beautiful area of sandstone formations.
Fine
Arts Center
One of the most unique arts centers is right here in the Pikes Peak
region of Colorado. Overlooking the purple mountains’ majesty
of Pikes Peak, on land provided by Mrs. Spencer Penrose, the Colorado
Springs Fine Arts Center was founded in 1936 by Alice Bemis Taylor.
Ghost
Town Museum
Ghost Town Museum was created 50 years ago (1954) to preserve
a piece of Colorado’s Wild West heritage. As a true preservation
of Colorado’s western past, Ghost Town Museum is a fun and
historic look back at kind of old west town that used to dot this
region during the late1800’s and early 1900’s.
Colorado
Springs Pioneers Museum
The Mission of the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum is to collect,
preserve, research and interpret the history and culture of the
Pikes Peak Region. The Museum is housed in the beautifully restored
1903 El Paso County Courthouse.
Steamboat
Seven thousand feet up in the Colorado Rockies, nestled quietly
below one of the largest ski mountains in North America, sits a
small ranching community that serves as a constant reminder that
the Old West is alive and well. Never far from its ranching roots,
Steamboat remains firmly linked to a Western tradition that sets
it apart from every other ski resort in the world.
